Why this project matters

We focus on cycling-centric initiatives that unlock education, wellness and economic opportunity for Sri Lankan communities.

The challenge

In many parts of Sri Lanka, cycling is still predominantly seen as a male activity. Young girls and women often lack access to proper cycling training, equipment, and safe environments to develop their cycling skills. This cultural and practical barrier limits their mobility options and recreational opportunities.

Our solution

Our program addresses these challenges through a multi-faceted approach: providing bicycles and safety equipment, organizing training sessions led by female instructors, creating safe cycling groups, and working with communities to change perceptions about female cycling.

Key activities
  • Free bicycle distribution to selected participants
  • Weekly cycling training sessions in each district
  • Safety equipment provision (helmets, reflective gear)
  • Community awareness programs about women in sports
  • Formation of local women's cycling groups
  • Skills development workshops for cycling maintenance
  • Regular cycling events and competitions
